"We know 60% of Americans find Gov. Palin unqualified for high office," Avillo said at press conference. "But it's not her fault John McCain made the disastrous decision to nominate her for Vice President!"
(York, PA) -- Speaking before a crowd of Obama and McCain supporters and the press outside the Expo Center in York today, Democratic Congressional candidate Dr. Phil Avillo praised the Obama-Biden tax plan for working families and criticized John McCain for his selection of first term Alaska Governor Sara Palin as his vice presidential running mate.
"The McCain tax plan is literally more of the same economy-draining concentration of wealth in the hands of unregulated big corporate and Wall Street deal makers. We've watched corporate gangsters, like Enron, and financial con artists, like failed mortgage leveragers, reap the benefits of the Bush-Platts economic boondoggle over the last eight years, and now Mr. McCain promises us nothing but more of the same!" Dr. Avillo said. "McCain's economic and campaign advisers are complete failures. They are desperate now in the face of their failures, and we all know it!"
Avillo said, "We've been 'spreading the wealth' upward and outsourcing our economy to foreign banks, oil merchants, and peon wage employers around the world since George W. Bush and Todd Russell Platts arrived in Washington, D.C. eight years ago." He added. "And what a disaster it has been!"
Avillo said optimistically that change is on the way however. "Barack Obama has a tax plan that will redirect our tax revenue across the economy to help get America back on a stable job growth and economic fast track." Amid cheers and chants of, "Vote Obama! Vote Obama!" and "Phil, Phil, Phil!" Avillo told the crowd, "Obama is not proposing a tax increase for the vast majority of Americans! On the contrary, Obama's plan will triple the earned-income tax credit for low-wage earners, and cut taxes and boost investment incentives for folks in the middle class!
"McCain's plan offers us nothing, while Obama's plan will restore tax levels in the upper income categories to pre-Bush-Platts percentages -- about a 3% increase among America's most wealthy." Dr. Avillo said.
"Actually under Obama's plan, total federal taxes for the typical middle class family will be 19% lower than they were under President Reagan and his failed trickle down theory! There are no tax increases for families making less than a quarter of a million dollars a year."
Avillo told the crowd that it is time for change in America and, "time for change in the way we do politics in here York!"
"Pennsylvanians will vote in record numbers in three short days, and I believe they will vote for change at every level of government!" Avillo said. "Obama-Biden will carry the commonwealth, and our local democratic ticket is the strongest in years. We will send more Democrats to Harrisburg and virtually every single Democratic on the ticket is stronger, smarter, and more innovative than the incumbent or opponent and we all know that!" He added.
"I'm looking forward to representing the good people of our community in congress come January, and I can assure you that if you vote for me, I will work long and hard in Washington to support the kind of change Obama-Biden and Avillo will bring to our nation and our communities right here in the mid-state!"
