Avillo Leads Dem Ticket at Ron Paul Campaign for Liberty Round Table

October 29th, 2008

"We are here tonight for your endorsement and support," Avillo said. "Now is the time for great change in our nation and across the 19th Congressional District, and we expect your full support on Election Day," Avillo told an enthusiastic crowd.

(New Cumberland, PA) -- In the final days of the most important election since 1968, Congressional Candidate Dr. Phil Avillo led a contingent of strong mid-state Democratic Candidates in a round table panel discussion at a special pre-election meeting of the PA Campaign for Liberty in New Cumberland last night.

The highly charged topics ranged from state government reform, to property taxes, prison rehabilitation, corporate welfare, global war, inequitable drug laws and the state of the U.S. Constitution in the Post-Bush era. Throughout the meeting, the intelligence and commitment of the candidates and an audience of more than one hundred people was apparent in THE TWO-PLUS hours of tough give and take questions and answers.

Well known Democratic mid-state candidates Margie Stuski, Susan Kiskis and Phyllis Bennett spoke out on the issues of concern to the audience. Stuski called on Ron Paul supporters to get involved in, "the revolution against the far right in our nation," by enthusiastically supporting the Democratic ticket in the mid-state. Ms. Kiskis called for property tax reform and refocusing of government efforts similar to "the FDR programs " for "the poor and eroding middle class suffering through the worst economy since the Depression". Phyllis Bennett spoke to health care reform, over crowded prisons and inequitable drugs laws. "Each individual has a right to redemption and hope," Bennett said.

Hammering the current administration and the incumbent congressional representative, Dr. Avillo said that PA 19th Congressional District has been "poorly served" and the U.S. Constitution has been "under attack from the far right". Responding to a question from the audience, Avillo said, "Our Fourth Amendment right to privacy has been menaced by the Bush Administration with Platts' support in Congress."

"We have to stand up and protect our constitutional rights, rights enshrined in the First, Fourth, & Fifth Amendments, rights to free speech and assembly, to security from warrantless search and seizure, to Habeas Corpus, to trial by jury, and to due process," Avillo insisted.

"As an official organization we are prohibited by law from formal endorsements," Scott Davis, discussion moderator, said after the meeting. "But, as you can see from the enthusiasm in the room tonight, there are certainly many supporters here who are willing to work for and support Dr. Avillo."

Avillo added, "I'm happy to say that we've had requests tonight for hundreds of pieces of literature, lawn signs, and a number of organized door-to-door efforts will be launched by Liberty members as a result of tonight's meeting."
